Â
Its that time of year! Spring is
beginning to spring up all over the
neighborhoods.

Our gardens are waking up and crying for
help. If you have ever committed crepe
murder, starved or drowned your
plantings, provided a banquet of deer
food THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU! The
Extension’s Master Gardeners and their
instructor have offered to help us
correct our mistakes without our even
leaving out neighborhood. If 10 of us
join together, the class can be held
here (e.g. my house). The tentative
start time is Thursday, May 5th, 2:00 to
4:00 PM. It will meet every Thursday
until June 9th. The cost is $60 ( plus
$10 for the Master Gardener Monthly
Guide Book if you do not already have
one). If you are interested in taking
the course or want more information you

Â
Looking for many
good men and women. The Flea Market needs your
help.
Â
Looking for a fun way to spend Thursday afternoon?Â
Want to make some new friends? Or more importantly,
help us raise money for students?
Â
We still need a large number of men (or women – lots
of light stuff) to help load trucks at Sentry
Storage, Thursday afternoon, April 28, starting at
2:00 pm. This is a huge undertaking and the more
people we have the easier it becomes for all helping
out. This is a
one of the
biggest fund raisers of the year for the Service
Club and one that really gives our less
fortunate Brunswick County residents a chance to buy
things they otherwise could not afford. The ultimate
winner in all of this are many young high school
college-bound senior and several BCC nursing
students. The money raised by this event goes
towards the scholarships program.
Â
Like all things we do here in St James it takes on a
bit of a party atmosphere and is rewarding in
itself. If you have never participated in one of
these moves please consider it this year because we
really need your help. Usually we have 30 – 40
people to help with this effort. To date we only
have 9 volunteers, so please come join us. If you
can help, please contact Doug Pratt,
dpratt001@ec.rr.com, 854-0023.

11th and the 18th. The last date for furniture
pickup is Thursday, April 14th
Â
We also need additional help with furniture
pricing at Brunswick Community College on
Friday, the day before the Flea Market. If you are
able to help with this or need to schedule a
furniture pickup, please call Betty Pratt at

replaced after May 1 with patriotic blue bows and an
American flag in support of Operation At Ease.

please try to arrange for someone else to pick up
your packet at the meeting. Other arrangements for
pick up or delivery may be made by contacting Cindi

Â
It is not too late to order a patriotic bow. Please
call Cindi Neumann or email her at cindi91048@aol.com.
Â
A hearty thank you to our dedicated volunteers who
make these projects so successful each and every
year, and to all our neighbors who proudly show
their support of these causes by displaying the
bows.
 Cindi Neumann and Kay Gallotta
Â
 A Thank You
The St. James Knitters Club approached the POA
Warrior Ride Committee several weeks ago, asking if
they could donate a patriotic afghan to our visiting
warrior women.  On March 31, 2011 three
representatives of the St. James Knitters brought
not one – but three beautiful afghans and presented
them to three lucky women whose names were selected
in a drawing. Â Many hearts and hands provided these
handmade treasures. Thank you all for your
generosity and thoughtfulness.
Â
And Another Thank You!
On behalf of the
American Red Cross, and more importantly, the
patients and families that depend on your efforts,
THANK YOU. The St. James Community Blood Drive was
an overwhelming success due to the generous support
of our St. James neighbors. We collected 105 units
of blood, 12 of which were from 6 double red cell
donors. CONGRATULATIONS! A special thank you to The
Clubs, Mr. John Brown and Ms. Brandee Donnelly for
their support in providing a comfortable location,
allowing us to serve more people. Our next blood
drive will be on Monday, September 26, 2011. Please
save the date.  Thank you for caring enough to
give. Sue Mills

St. James Watercolor Artist Nancy Schulte
Featured |
|
Nancy Schulte Watercolors Featured at
Franklin Square Gallery Thru May 7
St. James watercolor artist Nancy Schulte is a
Featured Artist at the Franklin Square Gallery
Members Show from March 28 until May 7. She has
been painting with watercolors for over 25 years,
and has been giving classes in St. James since she
moved here from Atlanta seven years ago.  ”I’m a
nurse by profession because I thought I had to have
a ‘career.’Â Now I’ve been teaching painting for
fifteen years. I love to encourage others to
express themselves,” Nancy says.Â
Â
Her watercolors focus on a range of
subjects–people, landscapes, and flowers– but her
inspiration comes from the heart. “In my paintings,
I feel it is important to tell stories from my own
heart. My family, friends, and faith influence how
I look at life. I have a great respect for life,
and I hope it shows in my paintings.”Â
Â
You are invited to view Nancy’s latest watercolors
at the Franklin Square Gallery Monday through
Saturday from 10 to 5. Artwork by over thirty other
St. James artists is also on display as part of the
on-going Member’s Show. Admission is free. The
gallery is also open for evening receptions from 5-7
during downtown Southport’s First Friday Gallery
Walk. It is located behind Franklin Square Park two
blocks from the waterfront.
