Anderson State Historic Site will re-introduce two historical time periods when it presents: “Wanted: Preparing for War: The 146th Anniversary of the Fall of Ft. Team Freedom’s Chili Cook Off
Freedom Boat Club of Southport, NC is hosting a Chili Cook Off to benefit their Relay for Life Team in the Brunswick County Relay for Life. They will have a pro and amateur divisions that will be voted on by a panel of judges, along with people’s choice awards. To be part of the pro division you must own a restaurant. All other will compete in the amateur division. The cost if $25 to enter a chili into the competition, and $5 for everyone else to come taste and vote for the best chili! Your $5 allows you to taste all the Chili!

Spring Workshop @ Franklin Square Gallery
In this 3-day workshop, Miriam Pinkerton will teach participants how to make and use encaustic, a unique paint made from beeswax, resin and color. It is the most durable of all artist’s paints with exquisite visual properties, and it is stable from 35-degrees to 110-degrees F. Participants will learn to heat and apply beeswax, add colors and collage materials, transfers and incising, as well as the proper care of paintings made by this process. Deadline for registration is February 14th.

6th Annual Civil War Living History
The Cameron Art Museum commemorates the 146th anniversary of the Battle of Forks Road on the museum’s historic site. The site is where Major General Robert F. Hoke made his last stand against Union soldiers comprised primarily of US Colored Troops in the final fight for Wilmington on 2/20/1865. This year the annual event focuses on the daily routine of newly enlisted soldiers during war time. Confederate, Union and U.S. Colored Troop reenactors are on site to provide a glimpse into the camp life of soldiers in the 1860s. The day also includes infantry and artillery demonstrations, artisans demonstrations, family art activities, and more. Free an open to the public.
